In Dreams piano quintet 2000 duration 12’00” In Dreams, for piano quintet, is the realization of an idea that I've had for some time: compose a piece based on nightmares that have stuck in my mind over the years. I can vividly recall images from many of the dreams I have had throughout my life and in fact, one of my first definitive memories is of a nightmare. Rather than create a programmatic work depicting each dream, I attempted to draw upon different images and feelings for each section of the piece (being lost, being chased, etc.). The form of the piece is a large arch. Each of the three sections is restated in the second half of the piece in a new light just as the memory of a dream becomes cloudy over time.
