Imperfect Circle

Imperfect Circle (2006) for solo tambourine was commissioned by percussionist Christopher Cree. The title references both the shape of the instrument and the cyclic, but skewed, formal structure of the piece. The work contains an opening section followed by significantly varied repetitions of the opening. Each section is unified by the recurrence of distinct motives, but varied in terms of playing technique, dynamics, length, and level of activity.
